Sonic Race VMG

Race, Hydrofoil

The SONIC Race VMG: highly efficient, stable, ultra-light. Professional athletes expect maximum performance and efficiency with highest stability. Top performance under extreme conditions are only possible if you can fully rely on your material without any hesitation. FLYSURFER introduces the SONIC Race VMG to the market, with this kite we go into the next level of performance, designed to be used for “open class” kiteracing disciplines.

The FLYSURFER Kiteboarding R & D Team raised the bar once again! With a complete revision of the wing profile and adapted aspect ratio’s, we further improved the aerodynamic efficiency and above all the control of the beloved SONIC RACE. The more rigid construction of the performance tuned SONIC Race VMG shows its strength in all conditions including extreme high & low-winds. Supported by a 3-level Bridle Design (A, B, Z) riders have a clear advantage over the competition – the drastic reduction of bridle lines reduces air resistance (Drag) by an unbelievable 15%! This allows the athlete to ride with maximum top speeds and with the best possible angles over the entire race course. Looking inside of the VMG, minimalism is emphasized, fewer attachment points of the balance bridle lines are perfectly supported by a special mix of materials only at high stress areas. This ultra-light wing has unparalleled light-wind performance.

The SONIC Race VMG makes it clear that we have made no compromises to produce a truly unique race winning closed-cell foil kite, ambitious products make for outstanding achievements! Check out the revolutionary SONIC Race VMG by FLYSURFER!

I heard it explained this way from a FS team rider; if you want to boost and really work the kite through its paces, the Sonic2 is the kite. If your goal is course racing, the Sonic Race is the kite. He wasn't so much worried about the materials blowing out on the racier kite, but basically said that all the development and tuning and setup for the Sonic2 have been aimed at making it a more all-purpose kite, and the SonicRace or VMG are set up purely for hydrofoil course racing.

Saw one in person, but havent gotten mine yet. VMG is definitely fast! The guy who had it said the 3 row bridle system makes for less tangled when launching and landing.

Others have said on other posts that vmg has lighter bar pressure, worse relaunch (takes on water, wraps wingtip) compared to sonic 2.

I'm hoping to fly mine this weekend

A/B/Z again? Haven't been following new Flysurfer models much but It's been a while after original Speed4 to bring simplistic A/B/Z back.
Sweet!

[edit] Seems Sonic Race was A/B/Z too. I love the simplicity of it

VMG has A/B/Z like Sonic Race. Also now only 2 pulleys per side, not like Sonic Race which had 3 pulleys (A1/A2/B1/B2). Less chance for tangling, super simple mixer adjustment. Due to only two pulleys, slightly more bar pressure at the VMG than Sonic Race. But thus the sweet spot can be found even better, since you receive a bit more feedback. Had absolutly no problems with tip tucks. Only racing in kite buggy, can't tell about water use. Too early to tell further difference to Sonic Race. I love them both, real racy kites!

I got mine today! It came with the wingtips flaked (like an accordian) and the middle folded. I saw picture online where someone had flaked it instead of rolling. Is it ok to roll this kite? Seems like flaking it would be a lot more difficult out on the beach.
