speed 3 mixer question

Postby merl » Sat Sep 08, 2018 9:17 am

Just noticed that the c sparepart line has a knot near the bar end where it meets with Z. What is the purpose? I was wondering whether to larkshead z to that knot to lengthen z a bit. The kite is fine and stable but one needs to pull some trim in all winds. (I wondered whether it should have been at the knot all along, but I looked at an old vid of Gunnars on replacing these lines and he clearly does not have z attached at that point - see attached picture)

Knot can act to stop line getting stuck in pulley or used to restore pulley line limit.

You can safely move to C pulley line onto a knot on the rear main to extend Z.

Just asking to be sure I understand correctly.
So, no need to add pigtails to extend Z ?

If you move the rear C pulley line attachment down onto the rear main with a knot or say the ELC it has the effect of changing Z length. Have a think about it. It will also move your trim a bit. You can always make a pigtail if you want, but you also gain 3 spots to adjust Z with only one knot in the rear main. 1 the rear main Zmain join, 2 the NEW rear main knot and 3 the ELC.

Would you like a picture?

What I'm talking about here is the other way around: moving Z onto a knot (that already exists) on the C pulley line. Looks harmless, the knot is already there, and it only changes Z.

Yes you can you just may not get enough adjustment. Be aware changing that knot position will change your B limit. As well changing the length of Z with a mixer test changes the B limit.

You could use an extension for the Zmain and then place it on the rear main knot instead of moving the C pulley line attachment. Would give you the Z adjustment without effecting trim really.

There is no harm to any of this. Z and the rear have very little load and so knots pose no issue.
