You can do a backstall landing onto the trailing edge in higher winds if you walk underneath the kite while it's coming down. You have to reach WAY up high on the rear lines to do this, I've found that the brake straps on the Ozone race bars aren't anywhere near high enough up the rear lines to do this properly. If you walk under it and kill the apparent wind it usually works out okay, then you can either walk up your rear lines until you can grab a wing tip, or just hit the safety once the kite is at or near the ground, that way it doesn't get all screwed up falling down flagged out from overhead at 12.

wait till you see what a loose kite can do to other kiters.

Wait till that ohshit handle breaks or takes your finger off or you lose grip.

Being unleashed is very irresponsible

the 2 step is rarely a problem.

Not going to engage with you, but relax bro.

1. Oh shit handle will not take your fingers off.

2. Not all beaches are equal: I unfortunately don't have any chicks hanging out in bikinis on the beach. Now that I think about it... I don't have anybody hanging out on the beach. Hard to hurt someone that doesn't exit.

3. 2 Step release is a problem when you've fecked up and are being rolled by a double over head wave, your upside down, 10 feet under water and your lines are slack. You get 1 pull.

Back on topic:
Great tip from Mossy about walking towards the kite while backstalling it.
Whatever you do when backstalling it, commit to the backstall. Don't let go. Don't relax, if anything pull harder.

I never found a good method to self land a foil when it nukes, so I just pull the QR run down the line and pray it doesn't get too tangled.

Sorry for off topic - But it looks like foil experts are here. Im in progress of making my own carbon bars and as I dont use leash at least 12 years without accident, i want to continue with this practice.
However, i do use flagging in form of oh shit handle. On these new bar i want use back lines as oh shit flagging handles in same manner as they was used on older kites /till about 2006 back line was usual flagging line/. It will be the cleanest setup. Can i flag modern foil kite on back line? I tried it on beach in 10knts and everything looks fine - except back line bridle has obviously weaker attachment to kite. Also what is reason behind 5 line on foil kite? How it is attached? I know only ozone reride on open cells but this is different or?

many thanks
When I modded my own bars, I use the Ozone T and stopper ball and put a line loop on the back side of the stopper ball on one bar and an oh-shit handle on another bar for front flying line flagging. All I need to do is hold on to it or hook it to my harness as I flag... Seems to work well and I think that I will remove the line loop and replace it with an oh-shit handle... Just have not done it yet.

Yes i have it in similar manner and works well, but as i use very long depower throw /i like it/ this oshit handle is little too far. I need to reach far far in front which work in controlled QR-ing but i feel is too far for emergency. What im thinking is like on picture just next of hand - very easy to find without any reaching - it will be flat plastic contoured to bar so it doesnt go in way and when pull out little very easy and safe to hold between fingers.

Land in a wind Shadow is a good one.
Believe it or not a teacher land is possible.
Teather with kite at 11, depower and let go of the bar.
Run to the kite and catch the bottom wing tip before it hits the deck.

Wrap around and object also works.

Reverse land from 10, then pull safety once on the ground.

What happens when the bottom wingtip hits the deck before you get to it? Does the kite roll over and power up? What kind of risk is involved in landing this way? Thxs!

Plummet, you must be fast...... I don't think I'd get there in time. :(

Awsome! I never thought to try that teather land. I'm game, I'll try it at least!

Wrapping the kite around an object works great. Just be sure the object won't tear your kite fabric.

I'd say beware of landing in a shadow though. It can work well, or it can bite you. I've put it down behind large sand dunes and when I was detaching, had it all of a sudden come flying back up out of them full hot launch. Beware of that.

I never said teather landing a foil was easy!.... Hehe. But it is possible.

Run forest run is my advice. Let the bar go with the lite as high as practical before starting the run.

Use a strong teather and anchor.

If the kite hits the deck before you get there, there is a chance it will roll over and relaunch or most likely ball up into a mess.

Its also usefull when you don't have room downwind to reverse land.

I've successfully landed my 12m Chrono multiple times + 20 knots with this method.
