Ozone R1 V3 is out?

Postby keskopesko » Sat Nov 24, 2018 4:04 pm

R1 V3 is out. I know some guys tried it.
First impressions?

"We have refined the design for the V3, taking it to the next level without compromising accessibility to the R1s supercharged performance.

By utilising the ultra high performance V2 design and combining these performance enhancements we have found an overall increase in performance giving the hard-core racer:
Better angles up and down wind
Higher top end and lower bottom end range
Responsive handling
Increased stability in light wind conditions
Quicker inflation"

BR,
Ales

Just to prevent confusion:

As it looks to me: Ozone now launches what I would call R1 "V3.2"
after they already launched a R1 "V3.1beta" 1,5 year ago, which as I heard was not so succesful, especially for the racers not better than the very succesful V2, why they pulled it back?

https://www.ozonekites.de/2017/05/29/oz ... 3-out-now/
https://www.ozonekites.de/produkte/foilkites/r1v3/

Right?

Which looks interesting to me, that while V3.1 seemed to experiment with 3 sewings allong the leading edge as also FS uses to reduce 3D caused crinckles, the new V3.2 seems to have maybe not even one sewing which would mean upper and lower canopy beeing one piece? Anyone can comment on that? And while also the rest stayed pretty simple from outside, so no complex 2-level bridle and no extra wide span between connecting points along kite span, does this mean it could get down a bit with the price? Any price list yet?

I think complexity can be also hiden in clean design itself, so possible to outperform those modern high complex FS sonics race/vmg, which would be great as less sewings is always good not just for Price, but also for water coming in, etc.

So lets see a 9 m² would be interesting to test one day next year.

Whats up with ozones windranges for their foil kites, is this some type of new and improved material or are the specs for a rider weighing 40 kg/95lbs . An 18m that tops out at a max windrange of 13 knts and starts to fly in 2 knts ,,, a 7m that tops out at 27knts ? I dont think so.

Wind range is indicative only based on an average rider weight of 80kg. Actual range will vary based on rider skill level, type of board used and line length. The R1 V3 was designed and tested with lines ranging from 11m to 25m. Bar sizes and line lengths listed are our standard recommendation. We recommend advanced riders use shorter lines (11m to 21m) when racing.

No, I don't think so. Seamless structure would not be better and it would have many difficulties for manufacture.

Bridle spacing seems to be (mostly) 1-3-1-3... which is a good choice. It could be 3-3-3-3... but then primary bridle lines would be longer (but not so many). Price will be high :)

Bridle must have many levels in that kind of kite with high cell count of 59. There is primary, secondary and tertiary level in R1V3 bridle, like it was in earlier versions.

I doubt it. R1V3 is not quite equal to Sonic VMG by its specs but very probably performance is comparable. However line drag is lower in VMG and it has miniribs.

This shows how three level bridle and D-ribs are in a kite like R1V3

Weird

I doubt it's been cancelled though. People in the know have been selling their r1v2's cheap.

I just picked up an 11m And 15m r1v2 lightly used for less than half of their original MSRPs! If the v3 gets cancelled, the guy who sold them to me might ask for them back

It was never up on the site officially. hence the "hide" at the end of the URL. Some people decided to share the link of the unfinished page prematurely. The main background picture was of the old Trifin Formula Kiteboards FFS.
