The first thing I need is a form to shape my foils... the plate is 19 inches long which will limit the length of my wing, but this was what I had on hand. I can change the curve if needed. I can get less but not more than I have now.

This is my current plans. The length of the front wing is 19.5 and the metal form is 19. I'm wondering the effect of the 1/2 " overhang--thinking two layers of 3 mm/glass should stay straight. do you see any changes I should make before marking and cutting?


The board I will be used is new, but damaged. I plan on filling the cracks with epoxy....

For the board, take a look at the techniques here http://boardlady.com/repairmenu.htm You really don't want to just throw epoxy in there as all that will do it stop water coming in, you need some glass or carbon to join all the fibers back together again. Doing this fix might be a good introduction to using epoxy and carbon, it will be good practice for making the foil. If you're going to make flat tips on your wing you'll need to fill in the gap between the wood and the metal with some moulding wax. You'll also want to paint or treat the wood with something to stop the epoxy sticking to it.

Also way to go on doing a self build after your C****** experience! You're going to have a nice set of skills after doing this.

It looks rain here for the next week so no glass work until the middle of Jan when I'm back from Key West. I do have the wings in the forms adapting to the shape before I start the glassing process.

How are you gong to do the board to mast connection? Are you going to use the diamond.

The diamond design seemed like a bad idea to me, but sounds like they have held up for the people who did get their foils. From the videos looks like no highdensity foam around it.

I have two boards with the diamond plate mounting system so I will be using those. I think it's also a very sketchy design, but that's what I've got. I keep going back and re- forming my shapes, trying to get what I want which is flat with tips turned up/down. I did increase the length of both wings after reading the specs on the lift.

How do you plan to make the diamond shape attachment?

Might be better off to remove the diamond, add high density foam glass over that and use a flat plate.

I'm mostly finished with the shaping. I need to get my bias delivered and then can start the layup.

I layed up a layer of uni on each side of my mas yesterday and wrapped in Seran wrap, followed by strips of plastic trash bag, and then wrapped with very small shock cord with 1/4 inch spacing between wraps and poked holes for the excess to drip. The seran wrap stuck in the epoxy and the shock cord made dents, so I've got lots of sanding ahead after sanding, i'll lay on another uni and then determine if I need to order biaxc. I bought t nuts yesterday for installation into the fuse but I don't want to used them because the backing plate is just too large. I've read some on heli coils. Has anyone use heli's with success>

helis work I have used them for many things over the years... you will have to make a jig so you can drill ( bore) straight in . tinny bit of locktite helps keep them in too just make sure it works with your epoxy

about the inserts can you cut off each side of the backing of the nut so it is more of a "T" shape?
