A R,
Great to see your vac sac, maybe other D I Y ers will see that it is not so hard and much better.
I will suggest though to use a little more absorb material.
How are you controling your vacuum?

rev, i've got a micro switch and a spring that adj the duration a little. i've seen a few things i'll do different. the rope trick works well at keeping the vacuum even around the form. i squeegee out excess epoxy so the paper towel is overkill. i'm making foot hooks with leftover epoxy and carbon scraps, to be covered with mimnicell.

borist, thanks for that link. i'll buy some of those before my next build. i think i'll have enough carbon left over for another.

Great to see you making progress , I think you were smart going with vac bagging , I've done so much hand layup I'm reasonably good at it but its labor intensive and not forgiving when doing carbon since you cant see through it to ensure complete wetout and adhesion , in retrospect I'd bag it as well.
Keep it up !! :thumb:

AR,
In fact the beauty of vac sac is that the pressure forces out the excess epoxy making a stronger, stiffer and lighter part because of better resin to carbon ratio.
I am no expert and do super low teck vac sac but the small circles of epoxy that you see on your paper towel absorber looks about correct to me but when you get larger area it means you need more absorbing layers and maybe a bit to much epoxy in your part.
If there is no absorber then you are loosing some of the benifits of this system.
I like you use the plastic sleeve way with a plastic spatula to work out and in the epoxy, even still the little epoxy that is pushed out means your impregging ratio is about good. If none was pushed out then not enough resin, if to much pushed out into absorb layer then you are using to much.
I love to vac sac because it has proved to me that is is much better than simple hand layups.
I still don`t undrestand your "rope" please explain.
If I could only build good wing molds I would pleased.

the rope inserts into the end of the suction tube and circles around the part. the air flow is kept free flowing inside the rope weavings.

This was not my preferred way....I sanded out most of it later.
