Going to PR late January. Its my first trip there. Would like to get some tips regarding places to stay, we are staying for one week. Would really like to find a good flat water spot with the best wind. Its a plus if its not to crowded, and also a god place to stay if you want to check out more of the island.
Thinking about bringing a 13,5m and a 11m and shorty.Ok?

Considering Jobos beach and punta picua.... or maybe San Juan, we will probably have a rental car.

Thanks Toby. We had punta Picua as our first alternative, but have read that the wind is stronger in the north west region. But we do love flat waters
.
Any tips regarding kite sizes, is there any point bringing smaler kite than 11-12meter? Thinking about bringing a light wind board maybe...

since I fly an 18 only, I don't know...winds normally around 10-25 knots I would say...check shortly before your fly what the forecast says.
A light wind board would be good to have for sure.
If you go to La Paguera in the Southwest corner, you will have stronger winds and perfect flat water. But you need a boat ride to get there...there is/was a kiteschool that offered it...not sure if they still operate...google them.

I have a place in PR.... Ill be there Dec / Jan also.
If you want flat water awesomeness the spots for that are in the South in Guayama and Parguera. Many hidden gems - some you need a boat to get to in Parguera. But Toby is correct - Las Picuas (North East) is the bomb... water is a bit deeper there (Id say 4-8 feet on average) than the flat spots in Guayama (2-3 feet) which is important since its all coral underneath. And always surprises me on 20kt days there is usually no one there at Picuas. You will see more people show up on the weekends but 5-7 tops. Guayama Pozuelo is packed with locals on Sat/Sun. But they are all really nice... just introduce yourself. Weekdays is dead.
Northwest (shacks area) is mostly waves... really nice waves... on a reef break 1/2 to 1 Km off shore. In fact the entire North coastline is pretty good for waves as the reef goes across the entire north coast. San Juan will be light to medium chop inside the reef. BIG waves on the reef 1 km off shore in Isla Verde. Picuas is a bout 30-45 min drive from San Juan. Guayama is about 1 hour to 1:30 depending traffic.
Luquillo, as you booked, is PERFECT for access to Picuas - 10 min away.
But as you said - flat is what you desire - then Picuas in the North or Guayama (Pozuelo) in the south. If the Las Mareas Meter gets over 20 kts its on down there. The trade winds are 15-20 kts when its on... I use 9/12 there all the time (im 170 lbs) on TT in the flats and surf mutant on the reef. Rarely have I used my 7m. There are even some days I wish I had a 15m - but in January - 12/9 will be good. NO need for a shorty - water temps are 85-88 degrees.
Lastly - both spots have fisherman out in the mornings during weekday with hand nets... they are usually done by noon. Respect them and give lots of space.
I posted some pics of the Picuas and Pozuelo spots
Have fun!
