Light wind kites

Postby skideeppow » Thu Dec 21, 2017 3:18 pm

So i searched this topic but didn't find any direct answers. I am about 215lbs, ride ghost whisperer foil and my kites are drifters in a 7, 9 and 12. I was in the Bahamas two weeks ago and the wind was light and my 12 drifter wasn't cutting it. I used a 12 solo, 2015 and it was half the weight and was much easier in the light wind.
I want to pick up a lighter 12 m, and was wondering about other single strut kites that would work well for this

Any other suggestions or advice would be appreciated

Flite 12 is 3 strut, but amazingly good for foiling (not to mention regular freeriding). I have also used the Flite 17 down to about 8 mph or so, but I began to question if that was a good idea since my jibes weren't good and it was sideshore wind. I was pretty sure I was going to end up dumping the kite on top of me while turning to go back to the beach. ;)

Awesome post, because you also note that you sell Flites (and others) as a disclaimer, respect :thumb:

But you are so right, the Flite is maybe THE best non specific light foil kite, that works better than maybe all other "normal" LEI kites, so true and agree having had experience and friends riding these - eventhough I have never had one myself :D

I like the Flites, but only from 12m down (and the 12m its not as good as the no strut kites), ive tried the 17m many times and you either cant waterstart and swim, or you can waterstart and be immediately overpowered. Tested only with long lines.

I love my flite 10m from 9-10 knots. In lower wind I switch to medium ratio foil kite.

Ghost whisperer is an awesome foil, Moses probably makes the smoothest foils right now

But it needs wind compared to a surf foil, get yourself a big fat surf foil and your 12 drifter will be plenty.
