Need Slingshot CSS Bungee, what year is my control bar

Postby mikec_9999 » Thu Sep 13, 2018 6:17 pm

Slingshot has 2 CSS Bungees:

one for 2008-09 models https://www.slingshotsports.com/CSS-Bungee
one for 2010+ models: https://www.slingshotsports.com/CSS-Bungee_2

I don't know what year my control bar is, can some one help me identify it?

Update... That's definitely a pre-2006 bar since it has the old pulley system.

2:1 bar could be a valuable piece for anyone with S-ARC.

My 2008 SS T3 had pulleys on the bar. That 14m was a beast!

I'm pretty sure the CSS bungee is NOT what you're looking for. I'd contact Slingshot directly regarding this bar. It's design and function is regarded as an "antique" by 2018 standards (even 2008 standards).
Your $$$ would be better spent by getting a new (modern) bar... that is if the kite you're using it with is compatible. :thumb:

Before you get too far down the rabbit hole on that, why do you think that you need a CSS Bungee? Can you take a picture of what the problem is?

My (total novice) understanding of how safety release should work on this bar tells me that there should be some kind of rope going from the metal ring A through power adjuster (i think that's what it's called) B, through control bar, then through part C (which also has a little hold in it) and finally connect to the leash at D.

And, I think it has to be stretchable because depower rope is adjustable.

The original idea was to hook the leash right into point A. When you release the QR the kite flags to the center line. You can't loop or unhook like with newer bars but the safety's better than the velcro strap connected to the arm idea before it.

If you put a bungee on that bar and eject, the O ring at (A) will not go through the bar hole. If you put a bungee on that bar you have to run it on the outside of the bar, not where the depower lines are. Slingshot also has a different bar with the bungee that looks very similar to your model.

Here's a manual for that bar. Not sure why they say to connect it to the QR though.

Get a new bar.

I'm honestly not sure, but I think yours is maybe the 2007 Full Stroke Bar? I found a link to an old manual here with some bar diagrams you can look at if you want.

Yeah, I sell kiteboarding equipment for a living, but I for sure would just get yourself a new bar system that would work better and be safe. Find one on closeout or try and find one of us that's a bleeding heart and doesn't want you to die. ;)

BTW, what are you going to fly with this bar, anyway...or maybe we don't want to know.

Good luck on your journey into kiteboarding, mikec!
