How about foiling? It is equipping majority of riders with $1000-$2500 equipment and there’s serious progress being made in foils and boards.

Foilers are going to want smaller, lighter kites, sliding spreader bar harnesses, short chickenloops.

And good old kite models are still pretty good.

We kind of got older in the last 15 years and not many young kids can afford to spend $2000 every year on new cool gear, but it’s fun to keep up with cool toys.

Knew this was a LWC post from the title.

Dude, ...

And I knew instantly that you and "Adventure Logs" are Yanks using Dude all over the place on this forum (EU). You are more than welcome to start the US forum, or:

Learn your manners. Dude might be 2x older than yourself and 3x more involved in this sport.

I don't really understand using a"dude" on the Forum where everyone is way over 40ties (or 50ties, or 60ties)...Very selfish, and shortsighted term in my books.

Well, I wouldn't worry about it. The general populace keeps generating 40-50 year olds at about the same rate as 15-25 year olds.
Who has the money? (or maybe that's your point).

True, the industry was aiming more at young riders.
But, did that work out?
Most riders are older, because they have the money.
Finally the industry targets the right group.

And more youth gets attracted thru Olympia now...

But honestly...why would we care if our sport has more younger riders than older ones? Too be cool? With 40+ we should be beyond that point that we need such BS!

the reason for having younger riders on a kite spot is not to be cool but to push the limit on the water and not in the bar...

You do not like the thing your mum & dad do until a certain age... so if you are all so interested in getting more young kiters (I couldn't care less, our beaches are busy enough), wait for the grandchildren!

my Son is 17, he love's to kite and comes with us to all the trips all the time, we even take him out of school if the forecast is good ;-)
in my experience, he progresses far quicker when surrounded with like minded youngsters then middle aged people who are more interested in other activities when finally going on a "kite trip"

just my two cent...

The youth are all out doing wakeboarding or surfing, thats what I see where I am. Less kit, the possibility to hire boards/wetsuits for a few pounds.

Im thankful the industry still has a business model that sell closeout at 30-40% in some cases.

Surely the more older guys that take up the sport the more chance they can pass there kites onto their kids to take it up.
