Hi Guys,

last weekend German kiters met at Heidkate, close to Kiel (Baltic Sea).
The difference to last year was big!
So many good kiters on the water, many kiters afraid of going out due to the strong winds. The parking lot was packed, so the beach.
We all know that this sport will rock the beaches many years from now on.
Below a picture of the conditions.
We had very gusty winds, choppy water and really dark clouds passing time to time with a lot of pressure in it.
On the first pic you see the view to the right, this wasn't the main area, but you see the dark clouds.

I think it is a good idea to have an season opening fun event in every country. It is nice to meet guys and to talk. You can see all new kites and boards.

I tried the X2 from Naish.
Here the test:

But the conditions were not good at the event. That's why I didn't test other kites, but will test others soon. But on Sunday I was able to test the X2 more effectively.
Great kite!

Hello Toby,

Thanks for the great photos! It does look a bit nippy but probably warm by local standards. Question though, do those dark clouds harbor the odd strong gust as on this side of the Atlantic? Just curious.

it was f****** cold, indeed.
About 8 C°, water 6 C°.

Some dark clouds are very powerful and some are week.
Most guys came off the water before they came and then back on. But mostly small kites were out and then the gusts can be riden off. Dangerous are kites bigger than 12 sqm in gusts. Of course, only for experienced kiters it is possible to ride off strong gusts, and only on the water and not on shore.

Thanks for the info Toby. It looks like a great start for the kiteboarding competition season in Europe. Regarding minimum kite size to get you into trouble in strong gusts. I went flying a well inland on only a 9.5 m kite a while back. Hard to tell but it was probably 80 ft. horizontal roughly, at a good clip too. Watch those black clouds!
