learning to ride Sector - Use 4:1 depower or start with std?

Postby knot_moving » Fri Sep 21, 2012 3:32 pm

Just picking up a Sector this weekend I hope. Never been on a directional board before. wondering if it will be advantageous to put together a 4:1 depower now or just spend a few months figuring out how to tack & gybe and ride, then go to the 4:1?
Also I have an extra Bandit 3 bar that I'll probably use to convert, I think it should be fairly similar to other conversions I've seen, but if anyone has any 'gotchas' for me to watch for I'd love to hear them.

It doesnt matter - you can choose to learn to ride with 4:1 depower on your existing TT gear, to get used to it.

And you can learn to ride the Sector without 4:1 depower to get used to it.

You can also do both, and just not use the 4:1 depower much :thumb:

If I were you though, I would start riding the Sector first, and learn how everything works and what the ups/downs are regarding power and apparent wind etc etc.

Then when you got some experience, you can get/make a 4:1 depower and use that :naughty:

Ahmm...I myslef am a Sector rider since the beginning of the seson, I may sound stupid but what is 4:1 depower and why would it be needed for the Sector?

As the Sector is not a Full Courseboard and you still edge a little you don't need a 4-1 Trimmer. You only really need to to keep your body position back when trimming. Leaning forward to adjust the trimmer on a courseboard puts you off balance and you loose some ground.

See the videos here of the new Ozone bar that comes with the 4:1 system:

Thanks all - I am planning to use the Sector as a step towards racing. No racing at all in this area right now, but it sounds like a fun light wind board & we definitely have that going on.
So for now I'll just figure out the board - add the depower or not if/when we ever get some racing going on around here.

So how's it going - and what was your experience level when you started?

If you have a spare bar and like tinkering it's fun to play with the 4:1. It makes blast reaching more fun. Where you at?

Not to sound arrogant, but I don't thing there is such a thing as learning to ride a Sector. It's just get on it and go.

If you have concerns about riding it, don't add another level of learning by adding a depower system you aren't experienced with.
