Not to take anything away from the competitors - and also an awesome event and big props to sponsor(s)!
One question though; I have read from a few sources that few riders were complaining a bit about where they ended up after their heats. Of course this is subjective but nevertheless, how do you guys feel about this?
Wish 2014 will provide more wave competitions and a full KSP tour!

No idea if any of this applies to event so cannot speculate.
Critical risky maneuvers win in my book every time, the rules have to be as defined as possible so the competitors know what to produce. Judges that are not highly experienced in kiteboard wave riding are an absolute waste of time in my experience . That includes ASP qualified judges that do not kite - they got absolutely no clue (not their fault)- but you get the 2 together - GOLD. They gotta concentrate too and that means being paid well not to miss a thing cos nothing bums out a competitor more than thinking a judge missed something or had a conflict of interest in judging.

Many times it happens in judging that personal opinions play a role.
If you compete, you have to know this.
After all, politics!

Never heard of a single competition where judging was involved and there were no complaints

Does it have anything to do with the fact Cabrinha riders won a Cabrinha sponsored event?

Thats a good thing about kiteracing: you cross the finish line in first, youre first, no discussion about it.
When you get scores from judges.... It sucks!

Unfortunately NOT true...
There are soooo many line tangles and starport/port issues, that it sometimes becomes ridiculous, and will end up in a subjective decision by the judges

Yeah, u sometimes think u have won then you join the queue after attaching 4 new lines on your bar to replace ones in half lol
I was keeping an eye on the news feeds on the worlds - interesting stuff - looked fun but ever so strange how pictures and references to multiple tangles were- now you see them - now you don't! lol
Been judging SUP and kitesurf comps recently - real interesting, real good for your own competition riding too.

at top level things get hard but think racing is waay worst than some rant in ksp
MC SUKIE'S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BLOG wrote:Pretty much every nationality it seems has a representative, and these country ‘teams’ are very much that. Eating, drinking and training exclusively together, it is very different to the usual atmosphere of everyone being best friends you find at the freestyle events; these racers are definitely the more serious side of kitesurfing!
And in regard to rule breaking and protests, yes, they are still going on. 11pm and there are still many riders to be seen.
___________
completely off-topic but found this conclusion particular interesting
This is a sailing regatta with the sailors using sails which are independent of their craft.
Of course they are using a kite, and a board, but really that is the only reason it is called a kitesurfing event.
The entire attitude of the riders, the terminology and the way they think is that of a sailor. Now I am a kiter, I have never been in a sailing boat and it really does not interest me. It is crazy to think that we all do the same sport. Thus today I came to the realisation that actually, we do not. Kitesurf racing really is just another class of sailing.
it is a really nice reading, give a much better view on how were things than the videos

"The CEO was pleased to report that ISAF has appointed 21 Marketing to develop strategies to ensure the long term financial health of ISAF by identifying opportunities to increase the value for global partners, and to provide additional value to prospective partners.
A constructive meeting had been held with the IOC regarding the future Olympic Games Program and the possibility to add event(s) for Kiteboarding. The proposed format for Kiteboarding should be carefully studied to ensure it would add what the IOC calls ‘urban sport feel’ to the Olympic Program."
Kiteboarding = give urban sport feel so we call Kiteboarding sailing therefore ISAF can market Urban sport feel = exposure = advertising = revenue
