I like my kite to be hard, when it will explode?

Postby svetliy » Thu Aug 14, 2014 3:10 am

Does anybody knows at what pressure the kite can explode from overinflation?

I've seen once the guy was pumping the kite and it explode ... pretty sad session for him I guess.

If the bladder is sitting correct can you not explode a kite with out a compressor.
Only if your are very heavy will you have the kg to force down the pump.

I regularly pump mine up to 9psi, which feels like its about to explode, but never has, despite me ramming it into the water at full tilt numerous times.

I'll join the otheres. The kite can hold a lot.I generally pump until til it flicks with a ping.

I would also guess it depends a lot on the condition of your kite. Any weak areas, loose stitching, abrasions, or even the tiniest nicks would probably lower the critical pressure very significantly.

Kites are a living, breathing "thing". They are alive until their time is up.
Researchers are still trying to figure out their lifespan.
So far they only have one conclusion : The kites are either suicidal or on a specific (set by manufacturer) self destruct mode.
But what throws some researchers off, is, that some exceed their normal lifespan by many years.
And some come back from the dead.
It's a mystery.
Soon they will air an episode of "unexplained files" on Discovery regarding this very odd occurrence.

The bigger diameter leading edge kites don't need as much pressure as a skinny. I pump my screamer 10 to 9psi(digital gauge) and it really needs that since it is quite a small LE. Without a good gauge I was not pumping more than 6 before I chickened out ;).

Thanks for the input. If I don't have a gauge with me, I'm afraid to pump it well. Gotta go and buy a gauge now..
