Balsa or honeycomb?

Postby Onthewater860 » Thu Dec 15, 2016 2:55 am

Has any one used balsa or honeycomb in cores (surf or tt) with any luck? Maybe a thin honeycomb? 1/4 or 3/8?

I've made tt out of veneers. Balsa is going to be easier than honeycomb, bonding skins to honeycomb is tricky, and doesn't have any inherent flex or strength, you have to engineer the lamination to do it all.

Some years ago I tried somethyng similar to honeycomb.
The result was a light and very pleasant board

Now I'm working on a new model :thumb:

Beautiful!
What is filling the voids in tips and fins? Epoxy? A polyurethane?
