Naish & North advice

Postby Nayone » Tue Sep 09, 2003 9:22 am

Hi there, Cabrinha & Wipika and Flexi are my kites of choice but I have been offered the following second hand stuff and all with bag, pump & lines.
Naish R3 >> 5.0 Eur 150 7.0 Eur 200 9.0 Eur 200

North Kites >>
Toro 8.0 500
Rhino II 16.0, 12.0 Eur 600 up
Toro II 16.0, 14.0, 12.0, 10.0 Eur 500 up
Buster 11.0, 8.0 from Eur 400up

If anyone is interested in anything on the list pls let me know, but I realy wanted advice on what the Rhino II & Toro II are like as I have no idea.

I saw Dwights review >
'They have similar lift to the Rhino2. The Rhino2 has a slightly softer landing. The smaller Rhino2s can go a little higher. The Toro2s have more range, greater depower. In larger sizes, I get higher on the Toro2. The larger Toro2s turn quicker with less bar pressure than Rhino2s. Both kites provide a high level of performance and lift.'

Stay away from Toro2s!
In just four sessions I have sell mine (14). It flies well but it doesn't jump.
Rhino2 12 is very good, the 16 is good (less depower).

Hernan,

Do you have the R2 16m ? How is the de-power? I have the 20m and am considering getting a 16. I know too close a gap, but winds here are lite. Let me know what you think of the kite. Thanks.

DP,

I woudl suggest against the 16 if you have the 20m. I kite with one guy who has the 16. On my 20m I obviously start before him. We both seem to be ok up to about 18 kts after which we are both overpowered.

In my experience the 16m does not have any major top end advantage over the 16m. It would be far better to get the R2 14m it still has a nice overlap with the 20m but at least you can take it into the low 20s knots.

Hey Hernan,

The Toro2 is a good kite, but it needs aggressive riding and a lot of wind.
In the beginning i was riding them the same way as my rhino's, that didn't work one bit. No power, no lift.

I changed to a faster board, and now their kicking ass.
They are just a DREAM to do different kiteloops with.
Ride faster and more aggressive and you will like them.

Anthony,

thanks for the advice. looking for a smaller rhino. yesterday i rode for two hours on my r2 all over in the ocean. 13-18 mphs and that kite just tires me out. want a kite with same feel but don't have to depower so much. i'm worried the 14 will be too small. watched a guy with the 16 and it seemed to have some low end, so maybe i'm not looking for more high end just more comfort in the middle.
